Ranging from realism to an expressionistic style, Ahmad Kasha depicts Syria in a “siege.” Feeling attacked from all sides and cornered as if hunted, this feeling is personified throughout his work through the depiction of various animals: they quiver, cower and fight, or are depicted in the silent aftermath of onslaught. As the series progresses, the masses of animal bodies are abstracted and take on bright colours. These shapes form compositions that are distanced from his earlier realistic works and continue to morph through every repetition, taking Kasha’s practice into new directions.

Born in Jisr al-Shughur, Ahmad Kasha (1996) graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Damascus in 2021 and has participated in exhibitions in Syria, UAE, Egypt and Jordan.
