Iraqi artist Riyad Nemah graduated from the University of Baghdad in 1992 with a BA in fine art, which he left for Damascus in 1997. There he held his first personal exhibition in 2000. His work incorporates sharp lines, gestural brushstrokes, and an often contrasting colour palette to convey the struggles and turmoil of his hometown and its people. His paintings tackle themes of war, loss, identity, and humanity.

The artist participated in many group exhibitions in many countries and capitals, including Paris, Baghdad and the United States. He also received the British Council Prize in Syria in 2000. His works have been acquired by many international museums. He has held many solo exhibitions in Jordan, Iraq, Beirut, UAE, Syria, Prague and Kuwait Courtesy of Arab Weekly
