Boutros Al-Maari, born in Damascus, Syria in 1968, is an artist, writer, and cartoonist. He graduated in Graphic Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University and earned a Master’s and Doctorate in Social Anthropology from EHESS in Paris. He has lived between France and Germany and has contributed to many Arabic and international publications.
Al-Maari’s art blends Western and Oriental influences, capturing scenes like Damascus’s Al-Nawfara Café and featuring historical Western figures in Arabic settings. His work often references art history, with notable pieces such as A Tribute to Cézanne and Van Gogh and Gauguin. Al-Maari has showcased his distinctive style in numerous exhibitions worldwide.
