Born in Syria in 1966, Fadi Yazigi studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University. He graduated in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, specializing in sculpture.

Working across different mediums such as paintings, sculptures and reliefs, Fadi Yazigi’s works all mirror each other in terms of subject matter and, for the most part, focus on everyday life in Syria. His sculptures -generally cast in bronze- often depict people as underdeveloped creatures or as half-human beasts. As a figurative painter, Yazigi’s work revolves around people and human emotions with a nostalgic sensibility towards the individuals that he encounters. A strong facet of his work is experimenting with new materials and techniques, allowing him to continuously increase the range of his oeuvre.

Yazigi’s art is housed in numerous public collections including The British Museum (London), The Delfina Foundation (London), The Arab World Institute (Paris), A.M. Qattan Foundation (London), Atassi Foundation (Dubai), Kaleemat Foundation (Istanbul), CAP (Kuwait) and Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (UAE), as well as private collections throughout the Middle East, Europe, Asia and the USA.

In 2007, Yazigi was the Delfina Foundation artist-in-residence, Middle East representative (London); his lecture at The National Gallery, Poussin’s Sacraments – Rites of Passage and Continuing Creativity, was delivered that same year.

He has also participated in a number of international events and art fairs including; Asia Now, Art Paris, Abu-Dhabi Art, Art Dubai, Art Palm Beach, Beirut Art Fair and Sharjah Biennale.

وُلد فادي يازجي في سوريا عام 1966، ودرس في كلية الفنون الجميلة بجامعة دمشق، حيث تخرّج عام 1988 حاملاً إجازة في الفنون الجميلة، باختصاص النحت.

يعمل يازجي عبر وسائط مختلفة تشمل الرسم، النحت، والريليف (النحت البارز)، حيث تتقاطع جميع أعماله في موضوعاتها التي تتمحور في معظمها حول الحياة اليومية في سوريا. غالباً ما تُجسَّد منحوتاته – المصبوبة عادةً بالبرونز – شخصياتٍ تُشبه الكائنات غير المكتملة أو نصف-بشرية. أما في لوحاته التصويرية، فيدور عمله حول الإنسان ومشاعره، بنَفَس حنيني تجاه الأشخاص الذين يلتقيهم. ويُشكّل التجريب بمواد وأساليب جديدة ركناً أساسياً في مسيرته، ما يتيح له توسيع نطاق إنتاجه الفني بشكل مستمر.

تُقتنى أعمال يازجي في عدد من المجموعات العامة المرموقة، من بينها: المتحف البريطاني (لندن)، مؤسسة دلفينا (لندن)، معهد العالم العربي (باريس)، مؤسسة عبد المحسن القطان (لندن)، مؤسسة الأتاسي (دبي)، مؤسسة كلمات (إسطنبول)، مركز الفن المعاصر CAP (الكويت)، وهيئة أبوظبي للسياحة والثقافة (الإمارات)، إضافة إلى مقتنيات خاصة منتشرة في الشرق الأوسط وأوروبا وآسيا والولايات المتحدة.

في عام 2007، كان يازجي الفنان المقيم في مؤسسة دلفينا في لندن ممثلاً عن الشرق الأوسط، وقد ألقى في العام نفسه محاضرة في المعرض الوطني البريطاني بعنوان الأسرار المقدسة لبوسان – طقوس العبور والإبداع المستمر.
